Our storySusie and I both grew up in Chudleigh Road. Two blocks away from each other. Our paths might have crossed numerous times during our time in Plumstead but it wasn’t until Instagram and a love...no obsession, with plants resulted in our paths colliding at just the right moment.
I had dug up my lawn during hard lockdown and started growing flowers. What I never anticipated, was how productive a small plot of flowers could be during the height of summer and suddenly I had an abundance of flowers. My family encouraged me to start selling them and I suspect this caught Susie’s attention on Instagram as she reached out to me one evening, offering me her excess flowers. You see, she had a similar problem…more flowers than she could give away to family and friends. We clicked instantly, like long lost friends who suddenly recognised something in the other that they had been missing but never realised until that moment. My urban flower farm suddenly expanded to include her larger growing space and we spent many hours dreaming, planning, laughing, growing, ordering seeds and tubers (far more than we needed) and creating a business that was a creative outlet for the both of us. Our one condition was that it must always be fun and enjoyable. We have stuck to this, changing the look and feel of Flourish to suite our ideas, likes and dislikes. |
Our dreamWe are an urban flower farm, growing our flowers at two properties in the heart of Cape Town. Since space is a limited resource, we only grow what we truly love and at the moment, it is mostly dahlias.
Our vision for Flourish Urban Flower Farm is twofold. First and foremost, we want to inspire other people to find joy in flowers whether that is growing their own in a small cut flower garden or learning to design and play with flowers as a creative outlet which is why we offer a range of seasonal workshops from wreath making to floral design, propagation and creating your own cutting garden. Secondly, we want to provide our local community with beautiful, garden flowers that create nostalgia, have a small carbon footprint and are wildlife friendly. We offer dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, ranunculus, scabiosa and queen annes lace amongst other things. |
